Make a difference on water and on land

AQVA's activities rely greatly on the commitment of volunteers like you. Thanks to your help, we are able to make adapted sailing accessible to people living with physical disabilities, allowing everyone to experience a unique experience on the water. Your time, skills, and enthusiasm are essential to our mission.

As a volunteer, you will not only make new friends and create unforgettable memories, but most importantly, you will be a key player in inclusion and autonomy for our sailors. We need you at all levels, whether on water or on land.

Volunteering on the water

We have a great need for volunteers with good sailing skills to accompany our sailors as sailing companions. This allows us to diversify our services and offer more personalized support, complementing our team of instructors.

Our annual regatta, the Quebec Cup, could not be such a success without the experienced volunteers who share their racing skills with the sailors of the Silver Fleet.

We also need your help for training outings of our racing team, where your expertise is crucial for preparing our sailors.

Volunteering on land

Our sailboats are used seven days a week, which leads to wear and frequent maintenance and repair needs. If you have skills in boat maintenance and repair, we would be delighted to benefit from your help to ensure they function properly.

We also need volunteers on the dock to help sailors get on and off the boats and to dock them. This role, especially during our Quebec Cup regatta, is incredibly rewarding, as you will witness the smiles and joy of our sailors.

Other ways to contribute

In addition to help on the water and on land, AQVA constantly needs volunteers for administrative tasks. Whether it's for translation, fundraising, or accompanying our racing team during external regattas, your support is valuable.

The success of our social activities depends largely on the commitment of volunteers like you. Every moment you invest with us makes a real difference in the lives of our members.

For about ten years, I have been sailing. Often during my outings, I would cross paths on the lake with these small boats, called "Martin 16", piloted by sailors who arrived at the club in wheelchairs.

When I learned that AQVA needed volunteers to help with their activities, it was so easy for me to get involved. Having grown up in a family where my father had a disability, it was also time for me to give back.

I enjoy preparing and washing the sailboats in spring and fall. During the season, going out with participants on the lake as an companion brings me a lot... I feel like I'm helping them achieve that sense of freedom they experience while sailing.

Moreover, the members of AQVA have naturally become my friends, sharing a common goal (without borders) of sailing. (...)

The safety of our members and volunteers is a top priority. To ensure a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, we especially value volunteers who have first aid knowledge and a strong awareness of the needs of individuals with disabilities.

Due to the nature of our activities, volunteers may be required to undergo a security screening and reference check.

AQVA carries a $5 million general liability insurance policy. However, as with any recreational activity, there are certain risks associated with physical effort and, in our case, proximity to water. All volunteers and participants are required to complete and sign a liability waiver before taking part in our activities.

Since 2021, all volunteers who have direct contact with our members on the water are required to undergo a criminal record check. This process is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved. During your first visit, you will be asked to complete a confidential questionnaire.
