FUNDING

Funding

AQVA’s funding comes from both the public and private sector.  This funding is essential in order for us to be able to maintain the small $ 15 fee charged for a sailing session.  Our actual costs per session amount to more than $100.  In addition to staff salaries, our operating expenses include docking & storage fees, liability and equipment insurance, boat maintenance & repair costs, professional fees, etc.

Our most important source of government funding comes from the federal’s Canada Summer Jobs program.  Another portion of the salaries of the Pointe-Claire Site is co-funded by a program of the provincial government and the City of Montreal administered by Altergo named PALIM.

AQVA also receives an annual contribution from the City of Pointe-Claire and from the City of Montreal as part of the PANAM program. In the past, we have received funds from the Canadian Paralympic Committee for the purchase of a new boat and the production of two promotional videos. In 2015, we received a grant from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund for a portion of the construction costs of a new adapted bathroom.

AQVA has been fortunate to benefit from donations from a number of organizations.  One of our most precious partnerships is with West Island Community Shares whose annual donation provides essential support for our program.

Over the years we have received numerous donations from foundations and community groups such as the Foundation of Greater Montreal, Zeller Family Foundation, Rick Hansen Wheels in Motion, Alice and Euphemia Stewart Foundation, Fondation Bon départ de Canadian Tire du Québec, Fondation Mathieu Lafond, Fondation Charles Cusson, Pointe-Claire Old Timers, Kaufman Foundation, Martin Matte Foundation, John Baker Family Foundation, MAR-KIN Foundation, R. Howard Webster Foundation and others.

AQVA could not be a success without the support of corporate sponsors such as Royal Bank of Canada, Fairmont, Croesus, 3 Soeurs Bol, Jay Peak, Les tournesols (Tupperware) and others.

Our annual fundraiser is the Regatta for AQVA, organized by Royal Saint-Laurent Yacht-Club members, in collaboration with members from other sailing clubs.
